The collection

Le Grand Costumier’s collection includes nearly 120,000 costumes and accessories designed and acquired from the 1950s onward. It is one of the largest inventories of its kind in North America, crafted by some of Quebec’s best artisans and featuring a wide range of periods and styles: 

Our collection is housed over five floors in a 16,000 sq. ft. warehouse. All items can be accessed from floor level and are organized by period, style and size with the use of bilingual signs.

Inventory management

  • The collection is properly cared for through systematic cleaning, moth-proofing, continuous repairs and storage methods adapted to fragile items. Please refer to our Conservation Protocol (to come)
     
  • Each year, we add hundreds of pieces to our collection, acquired from various productions, private collections and donations of authentic garments.
     
  • All of the costumes and some accessories bear unique codes, with more recent items featuring barcodes. The inventory is managed through a tailor-made web database, which ensures the optimal monitoring of rentals and the easy tracing of each item.
