Le Grand Costumier’s collection includes 70,000 costumes, 20,000 accessories and countless memories. With items designed and acquired from the 1950s onward, it is one of the largest collections of its kind in North America, featuring a wide range of periods and styles.
The collection is of immense quality, made with great care. The fabrics and trims use natural fibres, and many of the accessories are made from real, quality materials. The collection offers notably a wide selection of costumes and accessories from the 17th to 20th century for men and women, comedy costumes, evening dresses and uniforms.
The collection includes numerous costumes created for the programs produced by Radio-Canada over more than 60 years, such as Sir Wilfrid Laurier, La passion d’Anna Karenine, Montréal PQ, Les démons du midi, Iniminimagimo, le Bye Bye, L’enfer c’est nous autres, La Corriveau, Le temps d’une paix, Cormoran, Les caprices de Marianne, Cyrano de Bergerac, Lorenzaccio and Le parc des braves, among others, as well as a wide range of external productions. The collection is continuously being expanded through acquisitions from costume designers, producers and the general public.
The catalogue presents 750 photos that best represent each category of the collection. Each costume item found throughout the main categories are arranged in a chnological sort, from the oldest to the most recent, interposing costumes and accessories. Regular updates will be made to the catalogue, for instance to introduce new acquisitions.
